Growing up,
The sky was the deepest blue. With the wonderful surroundings of the scrubby bushes and the united homesteads boasting trees full of golden peaches, as well as vibrant flowers – most red and yellow;
The everyday sounds were songs of the different bird species flying by in impressive formations, the beautiful melodies of the goat and sheep bell – which was a marvel to our small ears;
The earthy aroma of the dung of the cattle which grazed our beautiful savannaland – permeated the air – particularly after the rare torrential rains (Gaolathe);
The bright and sunny afternoon summers were burning hot; the rich, dusty sand surface stubbornly agreed – as all of us were usually barefooted.
All of this constructed a spectacular learning field that I joyfully and freely talked, walked, listened, played and prayed on.
I grew up in the magnificent village of Kanye (Otlogetswe).
