I strongly believe our dearly loved children, students, particularly those still at primary and secondary schools; should be “indoctrinated” with inspirational Batswana, such as this Quartet. I know they read Rre Moreri’s books; they might have seen Rre Radinoga’s name on the statues, such as the Bathoen one in Kanye; they might have come across Dr Mulale on social media; and they might have seen Rre Sejakgomo’s name on social media. But do they know their faces? Are their names synonymous with “success”?

One of such indoctrinations can be, us parents, aunties and uncles actively celebrating Icons such as these. For example: by buying their paintings, playing their timeless music; reading their books, articles, actively talking about their courageous and inspirational work, as well as creating and buying their photo posters to rightfully prettify our living rooms. The same way our parents, uncles, and aunties adorned the walls with massive, wooden posters of Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Brenda Fassie, and a Chico Twala – when I was growing up. By doing so, indeed, indoctrinating us with the creme de la creme of the South African music.

Yes, BTV, as well as the radio stations should play a pivotal role. But what if they don’t? Are we going to fold our arms and keep on defensively admiring, buying and banging Skyzoo, Kendrick Lamaar and DMX (I love them) till we rest in peace?

It is one of my hopes and dreams: that I, too, can join some of my countrymen, in “indoctrinating” our children with inspirational Batswana such as this Quartet!
