I vividly remember him. He used to, often, come home to visit my parents. Particularly when I was still a little boy. Accordingly, Mama would loudly order me and my brother – to the sitting room – to come greet him, our sister was at varsity. During the handshakes – happily preaching – Mama always reminded him of our respective Standards. And reassured him of our promising School Position Reports – at the Mafhikana Primary.
Upon his departure, my mother always reminded us: ’’Ke Morutegi o motona! Ke Mmantswitswidi– Mokwadi wa dibuka!’’
Together with Papa, they would further clarify; he is the grandson of Motsatsing Kgasa. Motsatsing is the brother to Seohela Kgasa, our Kgasa. ”Go tshwana hela le Nkgotla le Nkgosi” (just like you and your brother), Mama always emphasised – to this day.
I am forever honoured, to have shook hands with the intelligent and inspirational, ”eminent Setswana scholar, grammarian and lexicographer”, Dr. M.L.A. Kgasa.
Long live MLA Kgasa! Long live son of Reverend Andrew Kgasa! Long live son of Motsatsing! Long live son of The Great Kgasa! Long live!
