I am Vision 2016!

I Am Vision 2016. Yes.

I have recently attended a very insightful Nation Brand and Investment Workshop. For me, particularly, it was very fitting to celebrate Botswana’s Golden Jubilee in that very meaningful way. It was less than 24 hours, following the 50^th-anniversary celebrations of my country, our country, and a day before my 35^th birthday. What a telling present!

Growing up in the magnificent village of Kanye, where the melodious goat’s and sheep bell were fashionable; where the sky was the deepest blue; where the burning sun was very normal to our small feet deep in the – equally burning – sandy soil. Continuously, I had heard of, and indeed seen the catchy phrase: Vision 2016: on the Radio Botswana, and The Daily Newspaper; from both my Primary and Secondary School Teachers; on the advertising boards; Health Clinic’s waiting rooms, Posted up on the Hospital walls; pamphlets; and from the very strict adults’ conversations. You see I did not really understand the fuss about this Vision 2016? Even now in 2016! What is it? I had often wondered.

At the Workshop there were: Top Achievers Recipients – from Botswana – studying various fields across UK universities; Lawyers; Musicians; Doctors; Business-women; Business-men; Nurses; Scholars; Midwives; Executive Directors; Directors; Soldiers; Diplomats and many more. However, I can now assure you: when I was seated at the prestigious Botswana High Commission Conference Room, with a very diverse, intelligent, aspiring and inspiring young Batswana; immediately, I pinched myself, to be quite sure of what was unfolding in front of me; I smiled – only to myself – I screamed a very reassuring silent YEEESS! We are the Vision 2016:

We are the ones they envisioned.

We are the ones they talked about.

We are the ones they educated.

We are the ones they invested in.

We are the ones they sang of.

We are the ones they wrote of.

We are the ones they hoped for.

We are the ones they prayed for.

 

We are what they knew they were very capable of.

Yes. We are Vision 2016. My sister. My brother.
