Africa Unite!

We talked a bit of football. About 2-3 hours later I offered the ticket, thee ‘playoff ticket;’ the moment I mentioned Nigerian they looked at each other- as if it was a plot. They refused the ticket. I suggested they go to the world cup offices to verify its validity prior to the game. Still, they refused. Around 6am I thankfully evacuated the warm staff –room; broke as I was, I thanked them with a R20 for their hospitality. Leaving, I tried again; they did not change their minds. I couldn’t comprehend how they allowed me to get that close to them, but could not take the bloody voucher!

To this day, well aware of the ‘Nigerian Scam’s’ and all! I can’t help to think how ‘programming’, or ‘conditioning’ is very bad to us human beings. The two Gentlemen, didn’t even glance at the ticket- why not? What they heard was more important to what was at hand! If the ticket was from a white, Indian, Chinese or black South African, they might have praised him; for the rest of their lives? One of them could have watched Uruguay- Germany game, live. Not that they had to, but I strongly believe had the priceless ticket not originated from a Nigerian; they would have exchanged blows for it! Or I am also programmed hence I mentioned Nigerian?

”Africa, in South African media, is portrayed as ‘poverty- stricken’, ‘war-torn,’ ‘barbaric’, ‘diseased and rotten'”
