“It is what it is boss.”
He sent me this short message just last year following his father’s passing. The father who named me Kgosietsile. This past Tuesday (27th June), the 34 year old Mookamedi Peloentle rested. Son to my father’s younger sister.
He was the closest cousin I ever had. My Midrand boys all knew him. From Soshanguve, where he studied, he always visited me in Midrand. Thanks to Soshanguve I nicknamed him “Sosha”. Perhaps he was a brother that I could freely talk “dirty” with.
Just like me, Mox loved shoes. He came over to Midrand in 2001 to buy Timberland Boots at the magnificent Sandton Shopping Mall. Just last Wednesday, I was with the improving Mox where from his bed he took me through his shoe collection. The 2001 Timberland boots were there, packed nicely like newly bought shoes.
He knew and loved music: Hip Hop, R ‘n B, House, Kwaito… An avid fan of Bone Thugs ‘N Harmony, particularly when he was at Nanogang CJSS and Naledi, I believe.
In 2015, on the 24th of September, following our trip from Debonaires Riverwalk, we walked to the African Mall and back again to Bontleng, or according to Mox, “Kasi”, through Pop Inn where we indulged in magwinya, di-chips, and russians. Walking through some dusty football ground. Mox fondly shared that back when he was in Primary, he scored a wonder goal on that pitch and was immediately drafted into the school team where he didnt last.
On Wednesday, I handed my iPhone 5 to Mox to direct the Cab guy, Phenyo, to Bontleng to come pick me up. Unfortunately, about a minute later, my Mascom airtime ran out and Mox suggested I use his neighbour’s red cab. The very talkative red cab guy, who knew Mox for atleast the past 5 years, dropped me off at Masa Centre.
“Boss have considered doing a novel. Because u have a lot 2 tell. N it’s interesting.”
I have considered it Mox.

Thanks Koketso, we lost a great brother! But we should celebrate the memories and be thankful for his life. What a character he was! Be comforted. I remember him saying the name Nkosheng😊
