Kaizer Rantsho

My uncle in law, Kaizer Rantsho, whom we drove together to the village of Gasita, is from neighbouring South Africa. Kaizer was a political, rather apartheid refugee in Botswana from  1978. Among fellow comrades he was in exile with, in neighbourhoods of Gaborone such as Bontleng and Extension 14, is the great Letlapa Mphahlele.

I remember sometime around 2002, I was with Kaizer in Gaborone and one gentlemen hugged him and shouted: “Sir, Sir, Sir!”
The gentleman, who appeared to be in his 30s, went on to thank Kaizer for his illustrious tutelage at the Mahalapye Secondary School, he repeatedly stated that Kaizer was one of his favourite teachers. Kaizer is currently a Maths and Science teacher at the Ghanzi Brigade. Mr Rantsho studied at St Joseph’s College in Kgale. And went on to complete his tertiary in Nuremberg, Germany. He has worked for Kanye Brigade; Voice of America, in Selebi Phikwe; Motsweding FM, as well as Santech in Mafikeng and Cape Town, South Africa. It is worth noting that Kaizer is multilingual: fluent in Setswana; Afrikaans; English; German (i’m sure there is more!).

It is inspirational legends such as Kaizer, that are guiding us.
