Kitso “Schoolboy” Sebonego

In my 10 years far away from home, I have missed a lot of important events. I have missed my cousin Percily’s funeral. I have missed Shima, Percily’s brother’s wedding. I have missed my cousin Boikobo’s wedding. I have missed my cousin Thato’s wedding. I have missed my cousin Serekwa’s wedding. I have missed my uncle Willy’s wedding. And I have missed many other weddings, Kgomotso’s, Maipelo’s, Tumelo’s and many many more.

I even missed my brother’s tshaeno, or signing celebration.
Today, again, I’m missing my cousin Schoolboy’s wedding. Seeing these two legends, Thapelo and Shadrack, at Schoolboy’s wedding, brings heartfelt childhood memories.
I remember that in the early 90s Shadrack, Schoolboy’s brother, practiced Karate at the Marapalalo Hall, together with my late cousin Percily.
I remember, reluctantly, driven from Morwatubana, in a Ford Sierra, by the late Rre Tebogo David Sebonego, father to Serekwa, Shadrack and today’s groom. Following a fun-filled week, I remember I had left them at their cattle post. The first time I had been to a cattle post. I was probably 12 or 13 years old.
Congratulations Kitso “Schoolboy” Sebonego.
Your cousin,
Man-Kgooo
