Beautiful Cambridge

Yesterday I visited the university town of Cambridge. A punt on the River Cam, along The Backs was obligatory.

Of course, a visit to some of the famous University of Cambridge colleges was a must. I did not only marvel at the impressive paintwork at Christ’s College Gatehouse but the brown Master’s Lodge door too.

I witnessed a “Senior Member of the College” walking on the grass at King’s College. I was moved by the Gothic architecture inside the King’s Chapel, the magnificent fan-vaulted ceiling in particular. I thought of my flower obsessed mother at the stunning Sidney Sussex College.

I saw bikes parked everywhere. I gazed in disbelief at the number of cyclists in the city, in part because “students are not usually permitted to possess a car” in Cambridge. I strolled on the narrow cobbled streets in the city centre.
