‘Master Harold and the boys’: a conversation with my father

My late father was a miner in oppressive apartheid South Africa. In 2001 I secured my government’s generous scholarship to study in South Africa. He only knew the “baas” and “boy” South Africa. Perhaps tonight’s play, ‘Master Harold & the boys’ is the father-son conversation we never had.
