Mainstreaming race in development

Until the concept of race is mainstreamed in development, joining disability, gender, etc, we will not get anywhere.

What is race mainstreaming then?

I think race mainstreaming means that firstly racial inequalities are assessed and recognised. Then, accordingly, a racial sensitive and equality perspective integrated to legislation, policies and projects at all levels in a development portfolio. The same way concepts such as gender and disability have been mainstreamed in development.

And, of course, in order to achieve equality, an intersectional lens should be adopted. Where issues such as disability, gender, ethnicity, class, age imbalances, and sexuality are integrated together with race into development work.

Then only will the current shocking imbalances in this world be balanced.

“The paradox of education is precisely this – that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.”

Question: Is the UK racist?
Answer: Yes.

I owe a lot to the UK, I’m simply repaying, in kind.😎
