…of the soil

I took a refreshing 30-minute walk from my parents’ house to Mongala Mall earlier today. It is walks such as this one that really makes me feel present and deeply connected to my home village. I have, profoundly, longed for this walk. I knew that I would not cross the main road without greeting some of the barbers fa BG. Majita a re godileng mmogo ebile re itsane fela thata.

I saw the Mozazuru gentleman next to Mongala Mall. I stopped briefly by his stall and reminded him that I haven’t forgotten to come buy the goats’ bell e ke saleng ke re ke tla e reka. Ee, ke ne ka e riana go se kae go utlwa modumo o o mphang tlhogo fela thata.

I love Mongala Mall. Especially Spar… le yone Clicks ke sa e lebale. Bo KFC, Debonairs and Ackermans. Among all the shops that I have seen in my village; particularly shops that were not there when I was growing up in the 1980s and 90s, the shop that I like seeing in my area; fela fa Momoso go bapa le AB, ke Builders Centre.
