I remember the yellow flowers. I remember the yellow paint. I remember the yellow plastic-chairs. I remember the yellow bananas. I remember the yellow tennis ball. I remember the yellow t-shirt. I remember the yellow maize. I remember the yellow Aromat. I remember the yellow chicks. I remember the yellow football, with the black patches. I remember the multi-coloured Kleenex tissues, particularly the yellow ones.
I remember, vividly, hearing the soothing ’’Homeless’’ song by the Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Paul Simon; loudly emanating from the nearby shebeen. While my brother and I, reluctantly, dragged our small feet on the sandy road – to the yellow building – the yellow kurusa (land cruiser) cruising past.
I remember it was in 1987. I know it was at the Mosadithari Crèche.
I remember our teacher, Mma Ndidi. I know Mma Leburu.

I remember! I remember!: Yellow
