Kanye, from Kanye

Please meet Kanye, from Kanye. I’m not too sure if Kanye had heard of the other Kanye. However, when I was home – with Kanye – one morning, I played the good “Good Morning” song by the other Kanye.

Just like the other Kanye, Kanye is very talkative. Kanye has been helping my parents at home for well over 15 years. He cuts the grass, cultivates and waters the various fruit trees, the flowers, and plants some; he helps with any electrical faults, occasionally, he slaughters the goat, he changes the car tyres – amongst other things. When I was growing up, my brother and I were very good at these chores, although often rebellious; we carried them expertly under the strict supervision of my seated father. Kanye played a vital role during my father’s last years on  earth: my very active and not able father often instructed Kanye on the various chores that his boys used to do.

When I took this picture, the smiling Kanye elaborated how my Nikon camera reminded him of his automatic camera while he was a Miner in the apartheid Transvaal in the 80’s. According to Kanye, the Jozi Tsotsis stole his camera while he was fast asleep onboard the crowded train.

I remember how Kanye was saddened by my father’s passing: particularly when my brother and me, my father’s cousins husband, Thatis; Culture le Sledge and a friend, were at the Ga Mokongwana Graveyard, to perfectly cement Papa’s grave. That day, the talkative Kanye was not talkative.
