It was just before sunset, I remember because we all rushed to the Eskom College Dining Hall, immediately after you’ve left. The talkative DK was in my room; the cool Lee was in my room and the masculine Pex was in my room. We were busy discussing nothing, my back was facing the 1 bedroom entrance, and I was loudly preaching –nothing– as usual.
Suddenly, the smiling DK pointed towards the door – behind me – I quickly turned. My heart skipped a beat. I smiled. You smiled. You approached me. The room was in silence, I could feel the trio’s eyes, I could hear the trio’s desiring breaths, and my heart was pounding fast. Your eyes were sparkling, your teeth even better, in a sweet voice, you disclosed that you are going to watch a movie at the Boulders Shopping Centre – with your friends – and you would see me later. You were very brief. You left.
As soon as you left, a lot happened Bayanda. The trio gave me pounded-fists. The trio assured me that you loved me. The trio shouted my name. The trio envied me. The trio told me that we did it! Under immense pressure, I lied Bayanda. I agreed with the trio: ”yes we did it”. Bayanda, it was not only about it, it was more than it, way more than it.
Together with your group, you would leave in a week’s time for Wits University. I stayed. I never called you back. You never called me back. A year later, the trio saw you and your friends at a club. The smiling DK delivered the sweet message, that you asked him about me. I smiled, happy that you remembered me Bayanda. I remember you too Bayanda.
