Ntirelang Berman

I vividly remember the dark days I was so missing home. I’m not even talking family: I missed the things I did not like about home, the long queues at the ATM, the crowded weddings and funerals, and the dusty roads. Often, I would search for “Botswana music” on YouTube. I watched, listened, and sang along to a lot of Tsaya Thobane, Kulenyane, Fatshe Leno, and a lot more. Most of the talented artists included: the late Duncan Senyatso; the legendary Ndingo Johwa; and the brilliant Matsieng; I knew, or I had heard of while growing up in the village of Kanye. I ran into the unknown Ntirelang Berman. Wow! The Moratiwa song was too addictive. Somehow, It took me to the streets and passages of Kgatleng ward.

I went home in 2012 and I did not buy any Ntirelang. I would go again in 2015, and I still did not buy any Ntirelang. Now I am here, in 2016, at the Embassy of Botswana – only with Ntirelang – no YouTube: conversing, joking and laughing together.

Modimo o mphile, sebakanyana seeeee! (God gave me this short moment). Man!

And I did not even pay a thebe for Ntirelang!
