Before Days of Our Lives. Before Generations. Before Rap City. Before Manchester United.
There was “a di ke di phure majwana!”
Here, three Queens pose for a portrait, at a Photo Studio in Kanye, Botswana. The younger Queen thinks 1982. The 1981 Kgosi (me) was probably helping out Papa at home with something. The materials for the construction of the 1983 Kgotla (my brother) were being gathered. I guess it was a girls’ outing.
Just last night, I called the older Queens in this photo. Instead of agreeing hello, I sang: “A di ke di phure majwana e tle re bone tau seka motho!” Of course, the Afro Queen brilliantly continued the song. Upon hearing the song her mother (seated) started singing too (you should have heard us!), and further explaining the classic story. Clearly, the mother and daughter were happy that I still remember their stories.
