This Road!

I have seen and heard a lot on this road. For my first 9 years of education, I had to either cross or walk on this road. Just off this road is Mama le Papa’s house.

From our yard, I have seen mothers with babies on their backs on this road. I have seen women with water buckets on their heads on this road. I have seen grandmothers, grandfathers, slowly walking, holding a bag of groceries on this road. I have seen happy people, talking to themselves, stumbling on this road.  I have seen cheerful, energetic boys and girls on this road.

I have seen a convoy of wedding cars on this road. I have seen cars in a funeral procession on this road. I have seen donkey carts, full of wood, driving on this road. With my brother’s help, I have thrown a couple of stones at the passing cattle, goats, sheep, donkeys and dogs on this road. I have seen khaki uniformed and white booted Z.C.C. men loudly singing on this road.

I have seen strong men chasing a bull on this road. I have, indeed, overheard the boys, the men showcasing their oratory skills to their lovers on this road.

Today, I just want to thank this road.
