International Women’s Day: Mma Kekgathetse

“Can you be bold, as a woman?”

A powerful question on Gabz FM. I think what shaped my “feminist thinking” is undoubtably because of my mother and my sister. Paradoxically, as expected, my mother and I still disagree on a number of issues in regards to women.
I have a very vivid memory when I was a little boy. It was rare to see women driving cars in Kanye, private cars maybe, but BX lorries it was very rare. BX are the 1st two licence plate letters of the famous Government vehicles that were almost entirely driven by male drivers. However, there was one Mma Kekgathetse, who was a very fast driver: an entertaining driver, a unique driver, and an admired driver. We were always talking about her, as little boys. And what I hope and pray for is that we will always remember Mma Kekgathetse.
Perhaps, directly and indirectly, Mma Kekgathetse was schooling us, the little boys.
