I saw Mma Dinake at Goo Motebejana. I rushed to her and extended my hand to greet her, hesitantly she obliged. I mentioned my mother’s name, I then mentioned Fanta, the cute little dog she used to have back in the early 90s. She patted my back, and laughing hysterically, looked me in the eyes and remarked: “eish ga o utlwe!” (Hey! You are very naughty).
Although our new dog, that only my mother and brother adored, was far from looking like Mma Dinake’s dog, my brother and I went on to name our first dog Fanta.
It was beautiful to meet Mma Dinake again at President Masire’s Memorial Service.
