I wish my mother had attended my graduation ceremonies in Aberdeen, Scotland, as well as Bath, England. Knowing her, she will probably never board a plane. I also wish that she had visited me, together with papa when I was in Midrand, South Africa, for 6 years. At least, my siblings always came to Midrand, particularly to go to Sandton, for shopping.
Just this past Saturday, at around 8pm, crossing the not so busy Ramatlabama Border Post, with her siblings, my uncle and aunt, just in front of us, I reminded her that it was the very first time we crossed the border together. She simply looked at me, and remarked: “eheee” (ohh really).
Perhaps, judging by her reaction, I am incredibly privileged to have border problems that are not necessarilly problems, relative to the problems my mother faced when she was 36 years, my age.
