#BlackLivesMatter and white fragility

I think my ego has always wanted some validation to know that I’m on the right track in my anti-racist journey. The moment has arrived, via Facebook, from a white man (I know him), of course:

While he stated that he realised, “accidentally”, that I follow the UK Government Page on Facebook, therefore, I’ve internalised racism, it was not until he wrote: …”I hope you have fun sometimes”, that I knew I’m on the right track.

While I urged him to read more on WEB Du Bois’ double consciousness and also on internalised racism, he went on to ask me for book recommendations. I shared Reni Eddo-Lodge’s recent piece :”The debate on racism is a game to some and I don’t want to play”.

Ohh, finally, in his words:

“I know it’s hard to believe, but I was taught to think black people are more valuable than white people. My father still saying things like- singing should be banned for white people, it’s just noise.”

Paradoxically, it’s been “fun”, and thank you for your honest engagement mate.

All the best!
