Just last June, I had the honour of having a chat with one elder in my home village. She was telling me of the difficulties her beloved sibling is experiencing overseas.
At the same time, I could sense that she was warning me and perhaps advicing me on how to navigate life overseas. I thank her.
While it took me a very long time: working long hours, a lot of reading and two masters, to finally strategize how I could possibly live between the UK and Botswana, I believe this is also partly rooted in realising that if I am to be content about my life, I think, home has to be at the very centre.
Of course, in no way am I suggesting that those who have not had the privilege to “try things out” as I did and decided on living/working between the two countries home is not at the centre.
This is my story. And each and every Motswana in the diaspora has a unique one to tell.
